Job Description:
This challenging and exciting opportunity requires an individual with a technical background and demonstrable hands-on experience in any area of the drilling sector, ideally (but not essential) with experience of the ground source heat pumps or geo-thermal arena.
Due to the recent award of a significant framework contracts, and a dedication to continued profitable, ambitious and long-term growth across the UK, our client is now seeking to appoint a Senior Lead Driller to head up the Geothermal Drilling team covering complex borehole drilling and ground source heat pumps installation projects works in challenging and often inhospitable environments and conditions. You will take full accountability for all daily HSEQ, site works, setting up and laying out bore fields, working to designs, advancing boreholes, leading drilling operations, and installing loops then grouting of all boreholes. You must be able to demonstrate a proven track record of site or project works specifically within any area of the above-mentioned sectors.
The Role
- Comply to all company and site specific HSEQ policies at all times
- Responsible for the mobilisation of rigs, plant, resources, materials, as well as all site-based operatives, teams and sub-contractors
- Attend to and successfully carry out all assigned duties to deliver projects safely and timely
- Produce site records including, but not limited to; daily drilling and grouting logs, pre-start rig checks, risk assessments, and progress and site reports
- Undertake multiple site investigations in accordance with appropriate specifications
- Complete in-situ sampling and testing in compliance with BS and Eurocode 7
- Produce detailed factual and interpretative reports to assist the pre-construction teams to help enhance successful contract awards, based upon precise data, ground conditions, relevant site information and any other project requirements
The Person
- A demonstrable understanding of various project or site-based techniques, with the ability to use and operate complex drilling and grouting rigs and machinery
- Geothermal installation experience is crucial, including installing ground source heat pumps
- Manage all aspects of drilling operations, including the movement of equipment, site set up, procurement of materials, consumables etc
- You will also need to recruit Assistant Drillers and work without supervision
- Reading and understanding of site or project specifications and drawings
- A good understanding of adopting varied techniques pertaining to ground and site conditions, including drilling, bore hole logging, core and window sampling, and trail pitting
- A full awareness of project designs, specifications, and other contract documents
- An ability to produce reports that are easily digested based on gathering large amounts of technical information from multiple sites
- Highly organised and effective, with the ability to plan and schedule your own workload and the workload of your team
