Job Title: Geotechnical Design Engineer

Salary/Rate: £35,000 - £60,000

Client Description:

Our client is a rapidly expanding geotechncial design consultancy, who in turn form part of one of the UK’s leading specialist ground engineering contractors, and they offer a range of additional services, including earthworks and the full spectrum of ground improvement and piling techniques.

 

Additionally our client will review and offer complete engineering solutions for highly complex development sites and / or conditions due to possessing a proven track record of previous success in this arena which can then be applied to form the the most appropriate and cost-effective solution. Our client embraces the higher risks associated with any type of geotechncial / ground development by working in partnership with all stakeholders at the very early phase of the process. Additional “bolt on” bespoke design service offerings include (but are not limited to); temporary works, ground improvement, bulk excavation, soil stabilisation, remediation, earthworks, contaminated land and all associated enabling works.

Job Description:

This challenging and exciting opportunity, based in the Central Belt of Scotland and from home, requires an individual with technical design experience in the geotechnical and ground engineering sectors.

 

Due to continued expansion, an abundant pipeline of works, and the recent award of a number of lucrative contracts, our client now wishes to appoint a Geotechnical / Design Engineer to plan, prioritise and manage all design works. You will be responsible for ensuring technical project design and delivery excellence, and governance over work winning and contract technical issues for the company. You will provide guidance to other members of the team and Directors on all aspects relating to project design and delivery activities. The role will be based within the Central Belt region of Scotland and offer work from home flexibility.

 

The Role

 

  • Managing your own workload to ensure that the needs of the work winning and operational teams are met in a timely manner, in order to ultimately satisfy the requirements of clients
  • Initial review of client tenders regarding commercial and technical feasibility priority in line with design capability and strategy
  • In conjunction with the design department and other experts within the company, identify schemes, undertake comparative costs working with the Commercial Department as required and identify the optimum solution, which will include design initiative on your own behalf
  • Working alongside the commercial department, assess client specifications to table appropriate designs and bids which will allow for optimisation of margin
  • Responsible for site visits, assessments and surveys, which will include client meetings to ascertain individual project specification requirements, all to optimise the success of each proposal
  • Initiate site investigations, agree specifications with the design team for work proposals and renegotiate as required, including preparation of technical documentation or briefs
  • All technical work shall be carried out in accordance with the relevant standards, codes, guidelines and quality procedures
  • Analyse project specifications and drawings to accurately assess the conditions, and offer solutions or advice as required

 

The Person

 

  • This is a key role for an individual with extensive up to date technical knowledge of foundations, piling, and general geotechnical and ground engineering industry best practice
  • Extensive experience in managing designs and design works relating to all types of the aforementioned disciplines
  • You will be both focused and thorough, and possess the gravitas and professional credibility to advise senior management when action is required, together with the tenacity and drive to ensure that the necessary plans are taken
  • Must be proficient in routine and complex design calculations
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required, coupled with an ability to form effective relationships with partners and delivery team members under time pressure
  • Client centric and flexible in your approach, you will possess the strategic and creative insight to understand the full range of opportunities contained within invitations to tender and be willing to challenge the norm
  • The individual will know ‘what good looks like‘ for the design elements of bid submissions, and have hands on experience of leading the technical aspects of tenders in a timely manner
