Job Description:

Due to continued and sustained growth and the strategy to grow significantly over the next three to five years, our client is now looking to recruit a Senior Utility Surveyor to join their London and South East Operations team. Reporting into the Surveying Manager, the main purpose of this role is to take the lead for a range of complex surveying tasks on a number of major infrastructure and construction projects. The role will suit an experienced Surveyor who is keen to work on some of the UK’s leading infrastructure works for a market leading consultancy. 

 

The Role

 

  • Take the lead for surveying activates and technical aspects of a project once client instruction has been received, meeting all required Company standards, such as quality and health and safety

  • Working closely with the Project Manager and Surveying Manager, proposing the most appropriate technology and the most efficient method to deliver projects to drive a predictable and agreed commercial outcome for the business

  • Ensure the project survey team is resourced in a way that prioritises consistency throughout the lifecycle of the project

  • Ensure that projects are delivered to the appropriate level of quality

  • Take responsibility for managing project data, from its collection to final delivery using the most appropriate technology and methodology to meet the project specification

  • Manage subcontractors and their work on a specific project, ensuring adherence to the technical specification, required Company standards and the agreed timescales of a project in order to ultimately meet company commercial expectations

  • Pro-actively report on project progress, and ensure that projects meet the required deadlines and project costs remain within budget

  • Liaise with Clients as required on site concerning project specifications and deliverables

  • Coach and instruct internal staff and subcontractors on all aspects of data collection and data processing, encouraging all aspects of “best practice”

  • Build a realistic approach to each new client opportunity to build program timings and resources required to successfully deliver each client program at a price and margin

  • Act as mentor to the survey team by helping more junior surveyors gain the necessary experience and technical knowledge to further develop skills over time

 

 

 

The Person

  • Suitable applicants will preferably have a degree in surveying or a relevant engineering field

  • You will have demonstrable experience as a Surveyor, preferably with extensive exposure to Utility Surveying and up to date knowledge of current data techniques including electromagnetic detection and Ground Probing Radar

  • Ability to join an existing and established business and contribute to the operational aspects of projects in a positive manner with enthusiasm and drive

  • A motivator and leader of others who is able to evaluate problems or issues and offer solutions

  • Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, being able to relate to people at all levels in an organisation

  • A strong and supportive character able to guide, evolve and steer contracts forward

  • Should be robust and resilient, possessing drive, determination and natural enthusiasm as well as being a team player

  • Must have excellent time management skills, being able to effectively prioritise and delegate against deadlines

  • A humanitarian approach to relationships with colleagues, staff, clients and suppliers alike

  • Forceful and persuasive but able to listen and communicate effectively
