They have regional offices throughout the UK, as well as a large UKAS accredited laboratory, that enable them to deliver and take on projects nationwide and deliver high quality geotechnical, geo-environmental and ground engineering investigations and services. They operate within a variety of sectors that include high-rise buildings, brownfield and waterside developments, bridges, railways, highways, pipelines, offshore energy and multi-utilities. Projects vary in size and complexity, from small ground investigations to multi-million pound developments for clients including private developers, house builders, architects, consultant engineers, government, local authorities, main contractors and utilities operators.

Job Description:

This challenging and exciting opportunity, based in the Yorkshire regional office, requires a Project Manager within the field of Engineering Geology or Geotechnics who is looking to be responsible for the running of ground investigation projects within the company’s regional operations.

Overview

The northern business has a strategy to grow significantly over the next three to five years and have an exciting opportunity for a Project Manager to play a key role in realising this strategy. The successful candidate will be a qualified Engineer with a background as an Engineering Geologist or Geotechnical Engineer and have extensive experience in leading site and ground investigation projects. Reporting to the Regional Operations Manager, you will be responsible for the management of personnel and delivery of projects throughout the North of England. You will be responsible for the planning, programming and mobilisation of all works, including organising the various professional people working on each project, ensuring that safety and quality standards are achieved, whilst monitoring sub-contractors and also taking responsibility for the financial performance of each site or contract.

The Role 

  • Management of multiple projects and sites through the entire lifecycle, from development, tender, design and delivery through to final account
  • Partaking in pre-tender negotiations, variations to contracts and contract terms negotiation
  • Liaison with internal and external stakeholders, developing close working relationships and ensure clients are kept aware of project progress and updates, ultimately to avoid conflicts and disputes by providing a clear flow of information and pre-agreeing any required changes
  • Resourcing of subcontractors and internal staff to meet project delivery targets
  • Overseeing and managing teams of project staff assigned to each contract 
  • Liaison with Site Managers or Engineers to organise support required to achieve KPI's
  • Ensuring that statutory and legislative requirements are met including the production and implementation of RAMS, CDM, and strict adherence to HSEQ processes
  • Completion and ownership of all project documentation including various aspects of the approval stages of schemes
  • Minimise project risks, initiating corrective or preventative measures if required, and provide project reports to the Operations Manager for all deliverables
  • Developing and implementing management plans and programmes for projects, taking into account available resource, labour, plant, materials and any other requirements
  • Leading and motivating multiple project delivery teams, and monitoring progress against the plan or programme
  • Managing project budgets and costs alongside the commercial team, whilst always maintaining clear communication with all involved stakeholders and the organisation as a whole
The Person
  • Project management experience in a multiple site environment, with schemes covering ground investigations, geotechnical and ground engineering
  • Good client facing and customer communication skills, combined with team leadership qualities
  • The ability to accurately plan and programme works to achieve optimum efficiency in the delivery phase, including the production and implementation of RAMS 
  • Understand technical specifications to allow for the smooth running of contracts, combined with carrying out site surveys and audits to implement change or improvement if required
  • Full computer literacy in all Microsoft applications
  • Proactive and skilled at leading teams by example, thus being a natural influencer of a wide variety of skillsets and abilities within the workforce
  • A sound working knowledge in various forms of contract is beneficial
