Job Title: Principal Ecologist

Salary/Rate: £35,000 - £40,000

With offices across the UK, our client specialises within ecology, geo-environmental consultancy and environmental management.  Working with clients of varying sizes, they operate within both the public and private sectors.

Job Description:

Due to continued and sustained growth, our client is looking to recruit a Principal Ecologist with significant experience of leading a team and operating at a senior level. 

The Role

  • Reporting directly to the Regional Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing a small team with direct line management responsibilities
  • Co-ordination and management of ecology consultancy services
  • Take a lead role in the management of projects including; managing commercial risk, project accounts and resource management.
  • Technical review and approval of sub-contractor reports
  • Work with the team to manage and coordinate workloads, plan future growth and resourcing requirements, and develop a strategy for the growth of the ecology business across the company
  • Developing the ecology business to provide existing and new clients with an enhanced range of services
  • Effectively brief and manage ecology sub-contractors technical and financial performance
  • Write bids, cost projects and undertake technical work to support projects as appropriate
  • Take responsibility for the direction, mentoring, training and performance management of team members

The Person

  • Full driving licence
  • Able to work away from home as and when required to undertake surveys as part of a field team (all expenses paid)
  • Holds CSCS card
  • Proven experience of team, project and sub-contractor management from within a consultancy environment
  • Demonstrable experience of successfully managing ecology project teams
  • Excellent project, resource and financial management skills
  • Good knowledge of environmental planning issues outside of the ecology discipline, to provide rounded consultancy advice to our clients
  • Experience of compiling fee proposals and project budgets
  • Have excellent communication skills both written and verbal skills with the ability to compile and check reports
  • Degree qualified and have either Chartered or Incorporated membership of your relevant professional institution
