Job Description:
This represents a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join a growing business at the forefront of the heavy civil, structural and geotechnical / ground engineering sector.
The Role
• Assist with all commercial activities and financial governance, working closely with the contract / operations teams, including risk identification and management
• Continually review existing commercial processes to identify and implement best practice
• Assisting in drawing up contracts and sub-contracts or ensure contracts have been drawn up prior to commencement of works, and to review contracts drawn up by third parties
• To assist with tendering activities including enquiries, bid evaluations, proposals of bidder selection, and the settlement of claims and disputes
• Assist in identifying and managing risk and opportunities associated with all contracts
• Provide commercial / contractual advice to contract teams
• Notification, preparation and agreement of insurance claims
• Attend project mobilisation and close out meetings
• To assist with WIP levels and cash flow to ensure efficient processes and cash collection
• Assist in the timely submission of final accounts to clients
• Assist with annual commercial audits for each main contract to ensure good practice and compliance with procedures
• Assist in the preparation of monthly financial reports identifying trends and areas for improvement
• Assist in managing contracts (Using NEC3 option C and Bespoke forms) including final account measurement and agreement of interim assessments, Early Warning Notifications, Compensation Events and Extensions of Time etc.
• Preparing and submitting of Early Warnings / Agreeing quotations for EW / Compensation events and resolving disputes
• Attending / contributing to risk management, value engineering, cost / value, progress and design meetings
• Preparation of weekly / monthly cost / value reports, including KPI information, estimates of defined costs to complete, Pain / Gain position
• Preparing and agreeing of final accounts and sub-contract documents, including sub contract set up
The Person
• A Degree in Quantity Surveying or relevant discipline is preferred
• A sound working knowledge of construction and contract law, and various forms of Conditions of Contract
• An understanding of commercial input to the tendering and procurement processes
• Working knowledge of basic plant, equipment and materials
