Job Description:

Due to continued growth, significant group investment, and a continued commitment to increasing market share throughout the UK, our client has an exciting opportunity for a Business Development Manager, with the focus upon developing, maintaining, and managing clients in the sector. The role will provide support to the Directors and will help lead the management and development of contract opportunities and a sustainable forward order pipeline / workload. This will be successfully achieved through effective engagement and servicing of associated clients, and a focus upon maintaining net margins, whilst liaising closely with the senior management team in providing regular business reporting.

 

The Role

  • Provide overarching co-ordination of business development, sales and marketing
  • Promote the company, raise the profile, maintain current client base and grow sales.
  • Manage day to day pricing and bidding, developing and overseeing strategies and procedures aligned with the company’s commercial and financial requirements.
  • Work closely with other group business development staff to maximise opportunities and manage shared resource within all businesses.
  • Assist the board in forming and enacting future business plans and to act in the best interests of the company in relation to all HSQE, legal and financial matters.
  • Lead the management and development of marketing, including EOI / PQQ / ITT processes
  • Lead management and development of sales, including ECI, assessment and allocation of enquiries, over-sight of tender process, post-tender discussions and negotiations with a view to mitigate exposure to commercial risk and maximise potential margin.
  • Work closely with operations and commercial departments at handover stage and assist with project management and commercial accountability if necessary.
  • Recruitment, retention, training and development of sales and marketing personnel
  • Liaise with other group businesses on all sales and marketing issues, initiatives and forums.
  • Lead on the production of a Business Development Plan and sales targets
  • Raise profile by deepening relationships with existing clients and developing new clients
  • Bring details of new market sector / service offering proposals to the board for discussion
  • Identify market trends, opportunities and risks and feedback to the board on a regular basis
  • Assist with intra group sales and development opportunities as appropriate
  • Maintain a strong level of cooperation across business development teams
  • Assess the ongoing effectiveness of business development plans and strategies.
  • Production and design of company-specific marketing materials, digital and otherwise
  • Constantly ensure marketing materials are relevant and review their effectiveness.
  • Set and agree KPI’s with staff and critique to ensure effective and efficient performance
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant business development and commercial conduct legislation

The Person

 

  • You must be able to offer an advanced level of technical expertise, and client development, retention, negotiation and support experience gained from working within any area of the construction or structures / structural engineering sectors.
  • You will have demonstrable client development / liaison and management experience in a similar role within the aforementioned areas.
  • It is essential that you hold a full UK driving licence, are proficient in Microsoft Office packages, and be willing to travel UK wide as part of your role
  • Able to demonstrate sound commercial acumen, and with the ability to delegate responsibility as necessary
  • Offer successful client management, development, negotiation and liaison techniques
  • Excellent time management skills, being able to effectively prioritise against deadlines
  • Open to new ideas, not set in your ways, with an ability to think laterally
  • Ensuring maximisation of financial return, whilst maintaining and developing relationships via service levels and quality of the client and bid / tender management process
  • Clear written, verbal, presentation, organisation and communication skills
  • High attention to detail
  • The ability to work on your own initiative, operating at a senior level, as well as in a team environment
