Job Description:

This challenging and exciting opportunity requires an individual with a strong civil and structural engineering background, and proven experience in a similar senior role working for a recognised business.

Due to an ambitious and long-term growth plan, our client is now seeking to appoint a Chief Engineer, which is a seen as a critical position to the business, and working as a lead member of the company’s senior management team, reporting to the Managing Director.

The Role

As Chief Engineer you will lead an innovative Technical Design Engineering and Product Development Team
Responsibility for the design and manufacturing quality of all products
Develop and implement suitable design procedures and standards to ensure the safe and economical use of the product range across the group
Ensure adherence to design procedures across all offices via checking and audits
Develop product rules and datasheets to ensure safe and economic technical information is provided to the design team, complying with current technical standards
Verify calculations and testing to prove products (both standard and specialist) structural capabilities and compliance with current standards
Ensure suitable fit for use technical standards are in place
Develop new products for the group in accordance with business development and marketing strategies
Drive performance in the design teams and offices to maximize the speed of output in combination with safe and economical use of products and equipment
Coordinate CAD development to ensure best practice and continuous improvement
Deliver technical aspects of major projects, including overseeing the design of specially fabricated components
Assist with advice to sales and clients for technically challenging projects as required
Manage the requirements of new product development projects, and instruct others on the capabilities and use of these products
Develop new product ideas for rental and sale markets, and manage the production of manufacturing drawings to ensure quality, safe, robust and economical outputs
Manage QA/QC procedures to ensure suitable high standards and correct tolerances are achieved and maintained in the manufacture and maintenance of products
Manage the inspection and testing of new products as required

The Person

The ideal candidate should hold a Structural or Civil Engineering degree, chartership would be ideal but not essential
You will be flexible and have a drive to excel across all aspects
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with colleagues at all levels
Effective commercial awareness, with a keen interest in the company and an understanding of how the organisation works and manages resources
This role is central to our client’s strategic plans, and thus are looking for a highly knowledgeable and technical individual who can lead by example
You will possess 7-10 years’ experience working in a similar role
