Job Description:

This challenging and exciting opportunity requires an individual with a strong technical background and demonstrable experience in taking the lead within a foundations, piling, ground or geotechnical engineering contractor or consultant

Due to their commitment to sustainable, ambitious and profitable growth, our client is now seeking to appoint a Regional Manager for their London & South East region. Reporting to the regional Director, the successful candidate will have responsibility for managing the pre-construction, technical, operational and commercial aspects of all piling and foundation projects undertaken in the region, including management of sub-contractors, Project Managers, Contracts Engineers, Supervisors and all site personnel.  

 

You will be able to offer a demonstrable track record of experience in a similar role within the piling, foundations or ground engineering arena. You will be responsible to assist, support and lead in the day to day management of the region’s activities including; lending your expertise and support to the tendering and design process, client liaison, management of technical, operational and commercial elements, and the safe, profitable and timely delivery of all contracts, works, projects and schemes. Additionally, your duties will be reviewed and increased, over time, in line with the successful candidate’s natural development and career progression.

 

The Role

 

  • Provide effective control of all disciplines ensuring compliance with the company management system and business strategy
  • Take managerial responsibility to review and guide the tender and design elements of projects, both with the client and the internal teams, through all phases of the contract lifecycle
  • Provide leadership in health and safety promoting a safe culture and continual improvements throughout all aspects of the business
  • Implement and manage an effective departmental business strategy to meet targets and budgets set by the company
  • Manage the business in association with the wider management team
  • Ensure good liaison between disciplines and departments, acting immediately on any issues for the benefit of the business and company as a whole
  • Leading a sizeable team to ensure ongoing business growth and a coherent approach to customer relationships
  • Develop the regional business plan through effective sales strategy, marketing and client relationships, identifying new market opportunities and prospects for growth
  • Manage and oversee the estimating process, ensuring that estimates are delivered in good time and followed up to maximise the potential to obtain the order
  • Assist in the negotiation all contracts to ensure an acceptable level of risk and return, in compliance with the company management system.
  • Manage and oversee site operational staff ensuring projects are delivered safely, to the required standard, on time and within budget, providing technical input where required
  • Carry out regular site visits to engage with site operatives and approved sub-contractors

 

  • Working with the commercial team to ensure invoices/applications are carried out on a monthly basis, including monitoring of cashflow and resolving debt issues
  • Maintain reporting and measurement systems utilising information in a pro-active manner to plan and report on a weekly basis, and provide a written factual monthly operations report
  • Through performance measurement ensure the region remains profitable and efficient with costs controlled
  • Manage departmental staff in accordance with company procedures including; motivation of the team, work allocation, employee performance management, training and development, employee holidays and absence management

 

The Person

 

  • You will possess a relevant Degree (Civil, Structural, Geotechnical, Earth Sciences) or be suitably qualified through experience, Chartered status would be advantageous although not essential  
  • To have a proven track record in hands on contracts and projects management within the foundations, ground, geotechnical or piling engineering sectors
  • To have run regions, business units or division with a diplomatic and pragmatic approach, but also with a hands-on attitude to clients, sub-contractors and people management
  • To have had first-hand experience of regional, operations or business management, and therefore able to demonstrate a tenacious, lead from the front approach
  • To have experience of a variety of foundations, piling and ground engineering techniques  
  • Good levels of experience at both pre and post contract stage
