Job Description:

This challenging and exciting opportunity requires an experienced health and safety management professional who can demonstrate career progression from the construction, civils, piling and/or geotechnical sectors.

Our client is now looking to appoint a Health & Safety Manager for its UK operations. The position will provide comprehensive advice and support in the maintenance and improvement of health, safety, environment and quality compliance on company premises and operational sites across the UK.

The Role

  • Responsible for driving a positive safety culture and best practice across the company and a range of construction projects

  • Manage, advise and guide on all health, safety and environmental matters, keeping the business up to date with health and safety arrangements, policy, best practice and issues as they arise

  • Undertake site, office and depot audits and implement corrective action as required

  • Provide competent advice and guidance on statutory and procedural HSEQ compliance

  • Assure the Directors of the business that competent resources are available to carry out suitable and sufficient risk assessments of operational activities which includes the sites, offices, yards and workshops

  • Develop health & safety improvement plans that complement those at both Group and Divisional levels

  • Develop procedures that will improve performance and reduce unplanned events and rework and ensure the HSEQ systems are designed and implemented in accordance with International standards such as ISO9001, ISO45001 and ISO14001

  • Establish policies and procedures that meet the needs of the business but also meet the requirements of our clients

  • Maintain knowledge of current health & safety management practices, trends and technologies by developing industry working relationships and participating in exchange groups, associations and committees

  • Develop, facilitate and coordinate training for all staff within the company

  • Provide leadership and direction to ensure the successful delivery, implementation and administration of corporate health & safety policies, processes and systems

  • Motivate and develop our employees in your area of influence

  • Carry out annual and periodic performance reviews, encouraging professional development

  • Ensure the appropriate levels of reporting are carried out to meet relevant obligations

  • Lead by demonstrating the required behaviours, attitudes and mind-set to further develop a strong corporate safety culture

  • Uphold and safeguard the organisation’s values and philosophy relating to ethics, integrity, corporate and social responsibility

 

Role Requirements

  • Experience gained through increasingly responsible management positions within Health, Safety, Environment and Quality

  • Related post-secondary education (i.e. degree, diploma or certificate) or equivalent combination of education and experience related to Health, Safety & Environment

  • NEBOSH Qualification

  • Preferably Chartered member of IOSH, or similar accreditation

  • Construction, civils, piling and/or geotechnical industry experience preferred

  • A working knowledge of business processes and an ability to identify areas of improvement

  • Able to lead strategically with long-term vision and sound judgement

  • Strong influencing skills - with the ability to motivate and negotiate

  • Able to work collaboratively with other organizational and functional leaders and external client leaders and managers, with the interest and ability to mentor others

  • Open minded and keen to learn

  • Knowledge of quality control techniques/systems

  • IT literate, Excel, Word, PowerPoint

  • Full driving licence
